Canada Opens Border with USA on 9 August 2021

As of 9 August, Canada will allow fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents into the country for nonessential. Fully vaccinated travellers from other countries will be allowed to enter beginning 7 September.

To enter Canada, travellers must have received their full series of a vaccine at least 14 days prior to their arrival. The vaccine must be approved by Health Canada. At this time, vaccines approved by Health Canada are Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson.

Travellers must provide proof of their vaccination in English or French, or a certified translation in addition to the original. They will be required to upload COVID-related information, including proof of vaccination, through the ArriveCan app or web portal before departure to Canada.

Upon arrival, travellers must be asymptomatic and must meet pre-entry screening requirements, including a new border program that randomly selects people to complete a COVID test the day of their arrival.

Unvaccinated children under 12 years old who are travelling with fully vaccinated parents will not have to complete a 14-day quarantine.

Airports in Halifax, Quebec City, Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Edmonton will now accept flights from other countries.

Advice For Travellers

The COVID-19 epidemic is constantly changing worldwide. Travel and border restrictions may change with little or no notice. Airlines may have their own requirements for testing, masking, and distancing. It is recommended that travellers carry a supply of face masks since the requirement can vary by location. It is recommended that travellers practice social distancing, maintain a 6-foot distance from other individuals and avoid crowded areas. Check with your airline, booking agent, or country's embassy for information on your specific travel plans.
