South Africa: Ongoing Wildfire in Cape Town on 19 April

The ongoing wildfire on the slopes of Cape Town’s Table Mountain has spread towards the Devils Peak Estate/Vredehoek area of the Cape Town City Bowl Vredehoek area as of 19 April. Evacuations have taken place at the University of Cape Town (UCT) as well as in Vredehoek, Peppertree Road, Ministerial Estate, Disa Park and Mountain View complex. Authorities have asked travellers to avoid the impacted areas. Several highways and roads in the vicinity have closed due to the fire.
Additionally, authorities have stated that the Air Quality Monitoring Unit has recorded very high levels of Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM 2.5) and therefore residents with respiratory conditions are either urged to leave the area or stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed.
