Powerful Magnitude 8.0 Second Quake - New Zealand

A powerful 8.0-magnitude earthquake has struck off the eastern side of New Zealand’s North Island near the remote Kermadec Islands. A second tsunami warning was issued just hours after an earlier alert was withdrawn.

The United States' Tsunami Warning System predicted the earthquake could cause tsunami waves of 3 feet to 10 feet in height in French Polynesia, and waves of up to 3 feet in Niue, New Caledonia, and the Solomon Islands.
