Nigeria: International Aid Offices Attacked on 11 April

Reports state that suspected members belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) extremist militant group, attacked the offices of several international aid groups in Damasak town, in Northern Borno, Northeast Nigeria on Sunday (11 April). The attack involved setting guesthouses on fire and destroying relief supplies and vehicles used to deliver aids.

Militants from the Boko Haram militant group and ISWAP have frequently targetted humanitarian hubs in northeast Nigeria in the past. The 11 April attack in Damasak follows a previous attack on international humanitarian aid organizations by the group in March 2021.

Advice For Travellers

An insurgency aimed at establishing an Islamic state in northeast Nigeria has now lasted more than a decade. Many countries advise citizens to avoid all travel to the region due to lack of personal security, terrorist attacks, and armed conflict.
