COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in US Virgin Islands (9 March Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Residents can enter the country.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Borders have reopened and leisure travel has resumed. Entry requirements for non-U.S. citizens are the same as for entering the United States from any foreign destination.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • No, with exceptions

  • All incoming arrivals are subject to medical screening upon arrival.

Is a test certificate allowed?

  • Yes

  • Molecular, antigen, and antibody test results issued outside of the US Virgin Islands are accepted.

  • Every traveller aged five or older who enters the U.S. Virgin Islands by air or sea, including anyone in-transit to another destination, is required to use the USVI Travel Screening Portal and submit a COVID-19 test result prior to travel.

  • Travellers must submit either a negative COVID-19 antigen or a COVID-19 molecular (e.g., RT-PCR, viral or nucleic acid amplification) test result obtained five days before travelling or a positive COVID-19 antibody test result obtained within four months before travelling.

  • Travellers without a valid test result must quarantine. Tests taken or results received outside the five-day window do not meet the requirements.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes, with exceptions

  • Travellers entering US Virgin Islands will have to enter a mandatory self-quarantine for 10 days from the time of entry into the territory or until the traveller is able to receive the required health authority clearance. All quarantine costs, accommodation costs, medical, and food and beverage costs will be at the travellers' expense.

Travellers should only complete the Travel Screening Portal once the acceptable test result is available and the submission can only be completed within five days of travel.

  • A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required for entry into the country.

Insurance required?

  • No.

  • Proof of insurance coverage for COVID-19 expenses is not required to enter the country.

Airline restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Arrivals will be subject to health screening and temperature checks.

  • Wearing masks is mandatory in airports.

Border restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Borders have reopened.

  • Any traveller showing symptoms of COVID-19 will be subject to testing and quarantine.

Curfew restrictions

  • Minimal

  • The 'State of Emergency’' will remain in place until May 7.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Minimal

  • All gatherings are limited to 50 people for both indoor and outdoor settings.

  • Face coverings are mandatory in all commercial establishments.

  • Two unknown persons in public places should maintain 6 feet distance while travelling.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Authorities allow private vessels within territorial waters from 05:00 to 19:00 (local time) and ferries from 05:00 to midnight.

  • Passenger capacity in safaris and taxicabs will be limited.

  • In the current phase, non-essential businesses are open.

Accommodations open?

  • Yes

  • Accommodations and hotel providers are open and permitted to accept reservations.

Restaurants open?

  • Yes

  • Restaurants are permitted to open until 00:00 (local time). Indoor services are limited to six persons per table.

Bars and cafes open?

  • Yes

  • Bars reservation systems are open.

  • Bars and nightclubs are permitted for seated service only until 23:00 (local time).

Beaches and tourism sites open?

  • Yes, with exceptions

  • Beaches are closed from 17:00 until 06:00 (local time) on weekends and holidays.

Personal care services open?

  • Yes

  • Personal grooming services are open. Patrons must wait outside while awaiting services.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes with exceptions.

  • Face coverings are mandatory.

  • Children below 2 years of age and individuals who are unable to remove masks without assistance and having a physician’s certification of respiratory conditions are exempt from the requirement to wear face masks.

Other Restrictions

  • Daycare facilities and schools remain closed.

  • Virtual learning is permitted to continue. Public schools have reopened.

  • Nursing homes are closed to visitation.

  • All recreation facilities (indoor/outdoor) are open with facial covering.

  • Contact sports are banned.
