COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in North Macedonia (08 April Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Foreigner nationals are allowed to enter.

Is transit allowed through the country?

  • Yes

  • Transit through North Macedonia is allowed.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • No

  • A test is not required on arrival. At Skopje International Airport, thermal cameras screen both departing and arriving passengers entering passport control. Medical teams will conduct temperature checks and evaluate any person who registers a temperature above 37 degrees Celsius.

Test certificate required?

  • No

  • A test certificate is not required to enter the country.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • No with exceptions

  • Maximum days of quarantine: 14

  • Minimum days of quarantine: 0

  • Quarantine is not required on arrival for most travellers. A 14-day quarantine period is required for all travellers arriving from countries in Africa due to a COVID-19 variant identified in several of these countries.

Is a vaccination required?

  • A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required for entry into the country.

Insurance required?

  • Proof of insurance coverage for COVID-19 expenses is not required to enter the country.

Airline restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Skopje International Airport and St. Paul the Apostle Airport in Ohrid are open.

  • Commercial international and domestic flights are operating.

  • Passengers must arrive at the airport three hours before departure and wear a face mask at all times. Procedures are in place for thermal temperature screening.

Border restrictions

  • Minimal

  • All borders are open to travellers.

  • At Skopje International Airport, thermal cameras screen both departing and arriving passengers entering passport control. Medical teams from the Institute of Public Health are on site 24 hours to evaluate any persons who register a temperature above 37 degrees Celsius.

  • Travellers must register with the local police in the town/city where they are staying within 24 hours of their arrival in North Macedonia. Travellers staying in a hotel will be registered automatically when checking in. Travellers should retain the registration document as proof of registration until their departure from North Macedonia.

Curfew restrictions

  • A night curfew between 20:00 and 05:00 is in effect until at least 20 April.

  • A nationwide state of crisis is in effect until 30 June 2021.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Gatherings in public places are limited to four people. Exceptions can be found here.

  • Individuals must maintain a two-meter distance when in public.

Internal travel restrictions

  • No travel restrictions are in place, however, the government may implement travel restrictions with little notice.

  • People must wear a face mask while travelling by public transport.

  • Taxi services and any other vehicle involved in inter-city movements are allowed to operate with limited capacity.

  • Lake beaches and other tourist sites are allowed to open with health and safety protocols.

  • Currently, many cultural and sporting events are banned.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes

  • Face masks are mandatory in places where maintaining social distancing of two meters is not possible. Violation may lead to penalties.

Other

  • You must register with the local police in the town/city where you are staying within 24 hours of your arrival in North Macedonia unless you are in a hotel in which case you will be registered automatically when checking in. You should retain the registration document as proof of registration until your departure from North Macedonia. If you do not register, you may receive a fine and be detained or face a court appearance.

  • Gyms, fitness clubs and sports centres are closed.

  • All betting centres are closed until at least 20 April.

  • Authorities has banned seminars, training, workshops, and conferences.

Advice For Travellers

The COVID-19 epidemic is constantly changing worldwide. Travel and border restrictions may change with little or no notice. Airlines may have their own requirements for testing, masking, and distancing. It is recommended that travellers carry a supply of face masks since the requirement can vary by location. It is recommended that travellers practice social distancing and maintain a 6-foot distance from other individuals and avoid crowded areas.
