COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Jordan (06 April Update)

*Can a resident enter the country? *

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents are allowed to enter.

*Can a foreigner enter the country? *

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Passengers who have been in the United Kingdom for the last 14 days are not allowed to enter Jordan until further notice. Passengers can not transit from the UK through a third country to enter Jordan.

*Is transit allowed through the country? *

  • Yes with exceptions

  • International transfer passengers are allowed at Jordanian Airports provided they have a certificate for a negative PCR test performed within 72 hours before arrival and provided their transfer time does not exceed 10 hours.

*Is a test required on arrival? *

  • Yes

  • All travellers will have a COVID-19 test on arrival at their own expense. Testing requirements may change with little or no advanced notice.

*Test certificate allowed? *

  • Yes

  • Test certificates issued outside of Jordan are accepted and should be issued by an approved laboratory.

  • All arriving travellers by land or air must provide a certificate for a negative COVID-19 PCR test performed no more than 72 hours prior to arrival. Travellers 5 years of age and younger and travellers with diplomatic passports who are travelling on duty are exempt.

*Is quarantine required on arrival? *

  • No

  • Travellers are not required to enter quarantine on arrival.

  • Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 at the airport on arrival, will be subject to the Government of Jordan regulations for quarantine, which includes at least ten days of home isolation.

  • Based on the above restrictions, all incoming travellers will be subjected to 0 days of quarantine in the best-case scenario and 10 days of quarantine in the worst-case scenario.

*Insurance required? *

  • Yes

  • Foreign nationals must have health insurance covering COVID-19 treatments for the duration of their stay. Foreign nationals with diplomatic passports and medical tourism patients are exempt from this requirement.

Recommended Border App

  • Yes

  • A mobile application, “AMAN Application” must be installed by all passengers. This app will alert the user if they come into contact with an infected person. This app is available for both iOS and Android.

Is vaccination required?

  • No

  • A COVID-19 vaccination is not required to enter Jordan.

Airline restrictions

  • Minimal

  • The King Hussein International Airport, Queen Alia International Airport, and Amman Civil Airport are open.

  • Commercial flights operate to/from Jordan from a limited number of countries.

  • Domestic flight operations are operating.

  • All direct flights from the United Kingdom are banned until further notice.

Border restrictions

  • Moderate

  • The maritime border is currently closed.

  • Borders with Israel and Palestinian territories have reopened with a limit on the numbers of travellers who may cross each day.

  • Travellers intending to return to Jordan will be tested on arrival and can request for repatriation online here.

Curfew restrictions

  • Significant

  • The daily curfew from 18:00 to 06:00 for businesses and from 19:00 to 06:00 for individuals. Friday lockdowns will resume beginning from 19:00 on Thursdays until 06:00 on Saturdays.

  • Anyone violating the curfew measures will be fined and/or imprisoned.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Moderate

  • A maximum of 20 persons can gather publicly.

  • Every individual must maintain 1.5 meters physical distance from one another when in public areas.

  • People found violating rules will be quarantined for two weeks or could face a fine or imprisonment. If businesses are found violating the rules, they will be closed for 14 days and fined.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Masks are required.

  • Travel between governorates and regions is permitted subject to the pandemic situation and curfew hours.

  • Public transport is operational during non-curfew hours at limited capacity while adhering to public health guidelines.

*Non-essential shops open? *

  • Yes

  • Street markets are allowed to open with public health guidelines.

  • Businesses, including electronics, construction, furniture, clothing, food shops, dry clean, cosmetic shops, flower shops, and fuel stations and service sectors are allowed to open except during curfew hours.

*Accommodations open? *

  • Yes

  • Hotels and other rental accommodations are allowed to open.

*Restaurants open? *

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Restaurants are allowed to open until midnight. Restaurants are allowed to resume dine-in services, on the condition that customers have the Amman Jo tracking app installed on their phone.

*Bars and cafes open? *

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Cafes are open; however, serving shisha is not allowed. Violations could lead to fines or imprisonment or both.

*Beaches and tourism sites open? *

  • Yes

  • Tourist sites and historical places are open.

*Museums and heritage sites open? *

  • Yes

  • Museums are open.

*Personal care services open? *

  • Yes

  • Beauty parlours, barbershops are allowed to open.

*Places of worship open? *

  • Yes with exceptions

  • All religious practices are suspended at mosques and churches until further notice.

*Events allowed? *

  • No with exceptions

  • Businesses that organize weddings, conferences, exhibitions, cultural events, and festivals will remain closed.

  • Sporting events are allowed without any spectators.

*Masks required in public? *

  • Yes

  • Face masks and gloves are mandatory in public spaces such as in government buildings, shops, companies, and health centres.

Other

  • Gyms and pools will remain closed.

  • Schools providing in-person classes will remain closed until further notice. Schools and universities are allowed to resume distance education.

  • Public sector employees are allowed to go to workplaces.

  • The following businesses, services, and venues will remain closed: wedding halls, funeral homes, cinemas, public parks, play areas, entertainment centres, training and cultural centres.

  • Billiards and snooker centres, sports facilities, and game centres have closed.

Advice For Travellers

The COVID-19 epidemic is constantly changing worldwide. Travel and border restrictions may change with little or no notice. Airlines may have their own requirements for testing, masking, and distancing. It is recommended that travellers carry a supply of face masks since the requirement can vary by location. It is recommended that travellers practice social distancing and maintain a 6-foot distance from other individuals and avoid crowded areas.
