COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Jersey (27 May Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Residents and citizens are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Entry requirements vary depending on the travel history of the passenger. Countries and regions are categorized as green, amber, and red zones with their corresponding restrictions. These classifications are frequently updated and can be accessed here.

  • Effective 28 May, the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Isle of Man) will adopt individual national classifications and international travel classifications for the rest of the world will resume. More information can be found here.

  • To establish a passenger's 14-day travel history, all UK and international classifications coming into effect on 28 May will be retrospectively applied for 14 days. To qualify for a Green travel history, travellers must have spent the previous 14 nights in a Green area, based on the classifications assigned on 28 May.

  • If the journey to Jersey includes a transit stop in another country or region, the traveller will need to follow the classification requirements for that region regardless of how long they stayed in the point of transit.

  • Effective 7 June, children under the age of 18 will be classified Green unless they have a travel history to a Red region in the past 14 days.

Is transit allowed through the country?

  • Yes

  • Passengers transiting through Jersey to an onward destination will be tested on arrival in Jersey.

  • Transit passengers must remain in the port of arrival until their onward journey and may be required to isolate themselves from other passengers during this time.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Tests on the day of arrival are offered at all main ports of entry.

  • All travellers are subject to PCR tests on arrival and again on days 5, 8 and 10 depending on their travel history. Travellers must self-isolate until they receive negative test results.

  • Travellers from Red zone regions can only be released from isolation following a negative test on day 10. Travellers from Amber regions can be released from isolation on day 5 following a negative test. Travellers from Green regions can be released from isolation following a negative test on day 0.   • Critical workers cannot attend work until they test negative during their isolation period.

  • Travellers who do not undertake the test-on-arrival in Jersey, are required to quarantine for 14 days.

  • Travellers arriving with a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate not older than 72 hours prior to arrival in Jersey will be exempt from the test on arrival.

Is a test certificate accepted?

  • Yes

  • Test certificates issued outside Jersey are accepted.

Test certificate required?

  • No, with exceptions.

  • Visitors to Jersey can opt to provide evidence of a pre-departure negative COVID-19 test conducted in their country of departure, replacing the need for a test on arrival. Evidence of a negative PCR test conducted 72 hours before arrival in Jersey should be sent for approval by email to [email protected]. Additional details can be accessed here.

  • All critical workers will be required to present a negative COVID-19 test result no older than 72 hours before they arrive in Jersey.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • All passengers are required to isolate for 14 days unless exempted under the “Safer Travel Testing programme”. Depending on the individual travel history, passengers who take part in the programme may undergo COVID-19 tests during quarantine and be granted permission to leave isolation earlier than the 14 days before.   • Arriving passengers should not travel off-island again unless they have received a negative test result within the last 72 hours or have completed the necessary self-isolation period.

  • Travellers entering the island from Green zones must isolate themselves until they have a negative result from their arrival test. Travellers entering from an Amber zone must isolate until they receive a negative test result on day 5. Travellers entering from a Red zone must isolate until they have a negative test result on day 10.

  • Passengers receiving a positive result on the PCR test on arrival, or at any point during their stay in Jersey, will be required to self-isolate from the time of the test result. They will not be able to travel during this self-isolation period and will have to make arrangements to remain in Jersey if their planned stay is shorter than the self-isolation period.

  • Passengers arriving from green or amber regions, who have been fully vaccinated within the UK, Republic of Ireland, Guernsey, or the Isle of Man with an MHRA approved vaccine 2 weeks before travelling, will have an arrival test only and do not need to enter quarantine.

  • Based on the above restrictions, travellers will be required to spend a minimum of 1 day and a maximum of 14 days in quarantine depending on the individual travel history.

Vaccination required?

  • No

  • A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required to enter the country.

  • Passengers arriving from green or amber designated regions, who have been fully vaccinated within the UK, Republic of Ireland, Guernsey, or the Isle of Man with an MHRA approved vaccine 2 weeks before travelling, will have an arrival test only and do not need to enter quarantine.

Insurance required?

  • No

  • Proof of insurance coverage for COVID-19 expenses is not required to enter the country.

Entry form required?

  • Yes

  • All arriving travellers to Jersey must complete a Safer Travel registration form 48 hours prior to arrival in Jersey. A negative PCR test result can be submitted by email to [[email protected]] for pre-departure approval.

  • As part of the pre-registration process, passengers are required to disclose their travel history for the 14 days prior to their planned arrival in Jersey. This includes their country of departure and any other countries or regions where they have stayed overnight or will have stayed overnight in the 14 days prior to arrival.

Airline restrictions

Border restrictions

  • Borders are open. All incoming passengers must be available for the Contact Tracing Team of Jersey and must follow all the public health guidelines.

Curfew restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Currently, there is no curfew in Jersey.

Social restrictions

  • Moderate

  • All businesses and services are open, and people may visit each other in homes with strict social distancing and hygiene measures.

  • Private social gatherings are limited to attendance by up to 20 people.

  • 50 people are permitted to attend marriage ceremonies or wedding receptions in a private garden.

  • Anyone who does not comply with the social distancing measures could be fined.

Advice For Travellers

The COVID-19 epidemic is constantly changing worldwide. Travel and border restrictions may change with little or no notice. Airlines may have their own requirements for testing, masking, and distancing. It is recommended that travellers carry a supply of face masks since the requirement can vary by location. It is recommended that travellers practice social distancing and maintain a 6-foot distance from other individuals and avoid crowded areas. Check with your airline, booking agent, or country's embassy for information on your specific travel plans.
