COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Isle of Man (28 May Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • No with exceptions

  • Borders remain closed to foreigners except those who have an Exemption Certificate issued by the Chief Secretary of the Government of the Isle of Man.

  • Applications for entry remain limited to immediate family members, partners of Manx residents, and those who own property.

Test required on arrival?

  • No, with exceptions

  • A test-on-arrival is not mandatory. However, travellers who have been within the UK, Jersey, or Guernsey within the 10 days prior to arrival in the Isle of Man will be eligible for quarantine exemption, subject to undergoing a COVID-19 test within 48 hours of arrival and isolating until a negative result is received. Such travellers will also have to take another test on day 6 for ongoing monitoring and assurance purposes.

  • Travellers who have been outside the UK, Jersey, or Guernsey within 10 days prior to arrival in the Isle of Man will be eligible to exit quarantine after 7 days, subject to undergoing a test within 48 hours of arrival, a second test on day 6, and testing negative for both. Test Certificate Required?

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes, with exceptions

  • Travellers entering the Isle of Man must enter a mandatory 21-day self-quarantine on entry. The quarantine period can be reduced to 7 days, subject to testing negative for COVID-19 on a test taken on arrival and another test taken on day 6 of quarantine. Restrictions may continue to apply to travellers in high-risk settings from days 7-10.

  • Travellers recording a travel history outside of Guernsey, Jersey, and the UK in the 10 days prior to arrival in the Isle of Man will be allowed to exit quarantine on day 7 subject to undertaking a test within 48 hours of arrival, an exit test on day 6, and testing negative for COVID-19.

  • Travellers who have been within the UK, Jersey, or Guernsey within the 10 days prior to arrival in the Isle of Man will be eligible for quarantine exemption, subject to undergoing a COVID-19 test within 48 hours of arrival and isolating until a negative result is received. Such travellers will also have to take another test on day 6 for ongoing monitoring and assurance purposes.

  • If a traveller chooses not to undergo testing, they will be required to isolate for 21 days and will have to isolate alone or with fellow travellers.

  • Based on the above restrictions, arriving travellers will be required to enter quarantine for a minimum of 7 days and a maximum of 21 days, unless arriving from Guernsey, Jersey, or the UK.

  • A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required for entry into the country.

Insurance required?

  • No

  • Proof of insurance coverage for COVID-19 expenses is not required to enter the country.

Airline restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Flight services to/from the Isle of Man are operating at a reduced level. All flights must land at the Isle of Man Airport at Ronaldsway for registration and completion of a landing form. Privately-owned aircraft can land elsewhere on the island after registration at the Isle of Man airport.

Border restrictions

  • Moderate

  • The Isle of Man is operating at the “Border level 2.5” Under this level, residents, key workers, immediate family members, partners of Manx residents, and those who own property are allowed to travel to the Isle of Man. More details on border restriction levels can be found here.

  • Anyone entering the Isle of Man’s territorial waters on board a private vessel and wishing to dock must do so at Douglas to register, complete a Landing Form, and receive authorization to travel to any other harbour in the Isle of Man. These entry requirements do not apply to vessels used for commercial purposes or those owned by the government of any other territory. The entry requirements are also not applicable for those mooring up to rest overnight in a bay, those wishing to shelter from adverse weather, or those requiring urgent repairs.

  • The Isle of Man borders will fully reopen by late June.

Advice For Travellers

The COVID-19 epidemic is constantly changing worldwide. Travel and border restrictions may change with little or no notice. Airlines may have their own requirements for testing, masking, and distancing. It is recommended that travellers carry a supply of face masks since the requirement can vary by location. It is recommended that travellers practice social distancing and maintain a 6-foot distance from other individuals and avoid crowded areas.
