COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Georgia (29 March Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Georgian citizens and residents are allowed to enter the country.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • No with exceptions

  • Citizens of all countries travelling by air from any country may enter Georgia if they can present a document confirming the full course (two doses) of any COVID-19 vaccination at the border checkpoints of Georgia.

  • Foreigners who want to enter the country must travel by air directly from these countries.

  • There are two work-related schemes for foreign citizens from other countries to enter Georgia:

  • Business trips by citizens of any country will be allowed if a permit is obtained.

  • “Work from Georgia” scheme is available to citizens from 95 countries who want to work from Georgia remotely.

  • Foreign students may enter if they receive approval prior to arriving.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • No

  • A test is not required on arrival at border entry points.

Is a test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • Anyone entering the country must submit a negative PCR test certificate not older than 72 hours before visiting Georgia.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Georgian nationals with a PCR test certificate conducted within 72 hours prior to arrival will be subject to either an 8-day self-isolation period or an optional PCR test at their own expense on the 3rd day of their stay in Georgia.

  • Georgian nationals who fail to submit the document confirming the PCR test when they arrive at the border will undergo an 8-day self-isolation. If self-isolation is not possible, they will be subject to a mandatory quarantine.

  • Anyone entering Georgia who has been in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland within the 14 days prior to departure to Georgia must undergo a mandatory 12-day quarantine. This requirement applies to all nationalities and all entry or visa routes. In this case, a follow-up PCR test on the third day after arrival in Georgia is not required.

  • Foreign students coming to Georgia must undergo a 12-day quarantine.

  • Foreign travellers arriving directly by air from permitted countries may be exempt from self-isolation requirements as long as they take a follow-up PCR test at their own expense on the third day after arrival in Georgia.

Entry form required?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • All travellers, except nationals of Georgia, must complete an application form at least 48 hours before arrival. The form is available at this link.

  • Business travellers intending to enter the country must submit an application available at this link.

  • Travellers involved in the project “Work From Georgia” must complete a registration form available at this link.

  • Foreign students must also complete a form before entering Georgia. The form can be seen at this link.

Insurance required?

  • Yes

  • Travellers should have a travel insurance policy as travellers may be asked to provide evidence of this by the immigration authorities upon arrival in Georgia. Travellers may face difficulties if they cannot provide evidence of valid travel insurance.

Vaccination required?

  • No with exceptions

  • The COVID-19 vaccination is not required for entry. However, vaccinated travellers arriving by air who present the document confirming the full course (two doses) of any COVID-19 vaccination will be allowed entry from any country.

Airline restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Commercial passenger flights have resumed.

Border restrictions

  • Significant

  • Land and sea borders are closed to most foreign nationals.

  • Domestic tourism is allowed.

  • Foreigners who were legally in Georgia up to 14 March but were unable to leave the country due to unforeseen circumstances, such as flight cancellations or border closures, are allowed to stay in Georgia until 1 July 2021.

Curfew restrictions

  • Moderate

  • There is a night curfew between 21:00 and 05:00.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Moderate

  • A maximum of ten people are allowed to gather publically indoors or outdoors.

  • It is recommended that people aged 70 years and older stay at home and avoid non-essential travel.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Taxis and private vehicles can continue to circulate freely nationwide.

  • The ban on travelling by taxi with no more than two people has been lifted.

  • Intercity transportation has resumed.

Non-essential shops open?

  • Yes

  • Non-essential shops are open.

  • From 8 March, non-food retailers in both malls and marketplace are allowed to start operating on weekends.

Accommodations open?

  • No with some exceptions

  • Some hotels and other rental accommodations remain open but many are closed.

Restaurants open?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Indoor restaurant facilities are open for operation with limited capacity.

Bars and cafes open?

  • No

  • Bars and cafes are not open.

Events allowed?

  • No with exceptions

  • Conferences, training sessions, cultural and entertainment events are to be held only online.

Museums and heritage sites open?

  • Yes

  • Museums and libraries have reopened.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes

  • Face masks are now mandatory in public places outdoors and indoors. Violations may lead to a fine.

Other

  • Theaters, sports clubs, and professional ensembles have resumed rehearsals and exercises on 15 March and full operations, including live performances and sports events with in-person attendance, will resume on 1 April.

  • Extracurricular school groups have also resumed on 15 March.

  • Gyms reopened on 15 March.

  • In-person schooling has resumed.
