COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in French Polynesia (16 April Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • No, with exceptions

  • Foreigners may not enter for tourism. Only foreigners who can prove their trip is essential may enter.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • No

  • A test on arrival is not required.

Is a test certificate allowed?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Most molecular tests conducted outside of the country are accepted. A list of approved diagnostic tests can be found here.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • Proof of a negative RT-PCR test performed within three days (72 hours) prior to departure is required. If the result is not obtained in due time, a certificate of completion of the RT-PCR test must be presented to the airline company, together with a negative result for an antigen test performed on the day of boarding. Any antigen test listed on this FDA site is acceptable for the same-day test in the event the RT-PCR test result was not received. Self-tests are not accepted.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • All travellers must quarantine for 14 days at a dedicated site at their own expense. An RT-PCR test will be performed on the 12th day of the quarantine. If the test is negative, the person will be able to leave quarantine after fourteen days.

  • Travellers arriving in French Polynesia by boat with five or more people on board (including passengers and crew) will be required to quarantine for 14 days onboard the vessel, berthed in a dedicated quarantine arrival zone.

  • Based on the above restrictions, all incoming travellers will be subjected to 14 days of quarantine.

Vaccination Required

  • A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required for entry into the country.

Insurance required?

  • Yes

  • Visitors must complete an “online entry form” declaring that they have purchased travel insurance which covers all COVID-19 expenses related to the cost of care including confinement, hospitalization, or repatriation if the visitor falls ill during their stay in French Polynesia.

  • Travellers must register on the health monitoring site here. This form must have been completed three days prior to departure and must be shown to the airline at check-in.

  • International and domestic flights have resumed. Since the border closure on 3 February, authorities have urged travellers in French Polynesia to depart before flights become unavailable.

  • Borders are closed for international tourism.

  • The authorities have announced that they will open the border of Tahiti and Bora Bora Island for foreign travellers from 1 May.

Curfew restrictions

  • There is an overnight curfew on the islands of Tahiti and Moorea from 22:00 to 04:00

Advice For Travellers

The COVID-19 epidemic is constantly changing worldwide. Travel and border restrictions may change with little or no notice. Airlines may have their own requirements for testing, masking, and distancing. It is recommended that travellers carry a supply of face masks since the requirement can vary by location. It is recommended that travellers practice social distancing and maintain a 6-foot distance other individuals and avoid crowded areas.
