COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Chad (31 May Update)

*Can a resident enter the country? *

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents are allowed to enter.

*Can a foreigner enter the country? *

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Foreign nationals are allowed to enter Chad.

  • Passengers arriving from the UK and South Africa are banned from entering Chad until further notice.

*Is a test required on arrival? *

  • Yes

  • Travellers will have their temperature screened on arrival. Anyone with a fever will be moved to a hospital.

  • At some crossing points, such as at the Koutéré and Bonghor point of entry, all travellers are subject to a COVID-19 test.

  • Any traveller who wishes to stay in Chad for more than 7 days must be tested at their own expense in a Chadian hospital in order to leave the country.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • Arriving travellers over the age of 11 years are required to have a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate issued no more than 72 hours prior to arrival.

  • A negative PCR test report may also be required to exit Chad.

*Is quarantine required on arrival? *

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Travellers are required to submit passports to the authorities on arrival and then travellers will have to undergo quarantine at their home for seven days. On the seventh day, a COVID-19 PCR test is required. Passports will be returned only after the presentation of a negative COVID-19 PCR test receipt.

  • Arrivals who stay less than seven days in Chad are not required to go through quarantine, however, they must follow all social distancing protocols during their stay. Travellers must be prepared to provide their contact history during their visit before departure.

  • Based on the above restrictions, the traveller will be required to spend between 0 and 7 days in quarantine.

  • A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required for entry into the country.

  • Land borders with Sudan, Libya, and the Central African Republic are closed. The land border of N'Djamena with Cameroon is open.

  • A state of Health Emergency is in effect until 11 September.

  • Gatherings for funerals and weddings are prohibited, however, two to three close family members are allowed to attend a funeral.
