COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Bermuda (20 March Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Residents and citizens may enter Bermuda. Both citizens and visitors to Bermuda must apply for a Bermuda COVID-19 Travel Authorisation 1 to 3 days before departure and cannot travel to Bermuda without the approved Travel Authorization.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

Is a test required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • Upon arrival, all inbound travellers (including citizens, residents, and other visitors) must have a PCR COVID-19 test at the L.F. Wade International Airport. Children below age 10 are exempt from this requirement.

  • After obtaining the result of the test taken on arrival, travellers must also be tested on the 4th, 8th, and 14th day after arrival.

  • Health screening measures are in place at all the entry ports including airports. All arrivals will have their temperature checked.

  • Anyone arriving in Bermuda from the UK, or who has travelled through the UK within the 14 days prior to their arrival will need to have a negative COVID-19 PCR test on or after the 4th day to leave quarantine.

Is a test certificate allowed?

  • Yes

  • PCR test certificates obtained outside of Bermuda are accepted. Antigen, antibody, and rapid test results will not be accepted.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • Visitors age 10 and above not residing in Bermuda must have a certified negative PCR COVID-19 certificate issued within five days of arrival.

  • Bermuda residents and work permit holders are not required to have a test before travelling to Bermuda. Residents (including work permit holders) who do not have a pre-departure negative PCR COVID-19 test result must self-quarantine.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • No with exceptions

  • Visitors and residents who completed a PCR test prior to arrival will only need to quarantine until the results of their test on arrival have been sent to them. If they are negative, they can leave quarantine.

  • All inbound travellers, including residents without the pre-departure negative test, must quarantine for eight days. After eight days, they will be tested and released from their quarantine period if their test result is negative.

  • Anyone with symptoms, or who tests positive, or who refuses any test will be quarantined for 14 days at their expense.

  • All residents and visitors to Bermuda are required to wear a Traveller Wristband for the first 14 days of their stay.

  • All travellers to Bermuda who are arriving from the United Kingdom or who have visited the United Kingdom in the 14 days before they arrive in Bermuda must quarantine in their accommodation for four days. They may only be released from quarantine after receiving a negative COVID-19 test performed on the 4th day.

Insurance required?

  • Yes

  • Travellers are required to have health insurance to cover COVID-19 related expenses. Travellers without health insurance will be responsible for all COVID-19 associated costs, including quarantine, testing, and treatment.

Entry form required?

  • Yes

  • Visitors and residents are required to complete the Bermuda travel authorization 48 hours prior to arrival available online for residents here and for tourists here. A fee is required, which includes the cost of the PCR COVID-19 testing conducted in Bermuda.

Vaccination required?

  • No

  • A covid-19 vaccination is not required to enter the country.

  • Yes

  • “WeHealth Bermuda” is the recommended mobile app to track and trace COVID-19 exposures. This app is available for Android and IOS.

  • Commercial flights are operating.

Border restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Travellers must have a Bermuda Travel Authorisation certificate and can apply on this page.

Curfew restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Bermuda officials reimposed a COVID-19 curfew from 00:00 to 05:00 (local time) until 1 April due to the current outbreak of the new UK strain.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Bermuda is in the last phase of a four-phase plan for lifting restrictions. Most businesses and services are open.

  • All government offices have resumed services.

  • Schools are open.

  • The maximum number of people permitted in any group gathering is 25 people, except for funerals.

  • Cinemas can open with limited capacity.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Masks are required.

  • Public transportation is operating normally.

  • Buses and ferries are operating with requirements for physical distancing and wearing face masks.

Non-essential shops open?

  • Yes

  • Most businesses and services are open and operating. Businesses are required to close by 23:00.

Accommodations open?

  • Yes with exceptions

Restaurants open?

  • Yes

  • Restaurants are open. The maximum number of people permitted to sit at a restaurant table is being increased from six to ten.

Bars and cafes open?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • All premises with a liquor license including bars, pubs are allowed to operate until midnight (local time).

  • Indoor nightclubs and bars are closed.

Beaches and tourism sites open?

  • Yes

  • Beaches are open.

Museums and heritage sites open?

  • Yes

  • Museums, and cinemas can open with limited capacity. Social distancing guidelines must be followed.

Personal care services open?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Hairdressers, barbers, and other personal care services are open.

Places of worship open?

  • Yes

  • Churches and other places of worship can open with reduced capacity. Social distancing guidelines must be followed.

Events allowed?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Indoor funerals are limited to 25 percent of the occupant capacity.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes

  • Face masks are required in public spaces where there is close contact with others, including on all public transport (taxis, ferries, and buses).

Other

  • Gyms, swimming pools are open and operating.

  • Parks and golf courses are open.

  • Those failing to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines could be fined and/or imprisoned.
