COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Bangladesh (20 April Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • No with exceptions

  • Until 28 April 2021, all international passenger flights to/from Bangladesh will remain suspended. Medevac, humanitarian relief, cargo, technical landing and flights cleared under special consideration shall be exempted from this suspension.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • No, with exceptions

  • Travellers are subject to medical screening at all points of entry.

Is a test certificate allowed?

  • Yes

  • COVID-19 test certificates issued in another country are accepted.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • Irrespective of the COVID-19 vaccination and unless otherwise relaxed by the competent authority, all passengers coming/leaving Bangladesh by the flights cleared under special consideration shall mandatory possess PCR based COVID-19 negative certificate. The PCR test shall be done within 72 hours of the flight departure time.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • Until 28 April, during the period of flight suspension, passengers arriving by the flights cleared under special consideration shall strictly have to complete a 14 (Fourteen) day institutional quarantine at government-designated facilities at the passenger’s own expense.

  • Based on the above restrictions, all incoming travellers will be subject to a minimum of 14 days of quarantine depending on the requirements listed above.

  • A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required for entry into the country.

  • Proof of insurance coverage for COVID-19 expenses is not required to enter the country.

Airline restrictions

  • Significant

  • Until 28 April 2021, all scheduled/non-scheduled domestic passenger flights and charter flights remain suspended. However, medevac, humanitarian/relief and corporate flights are exempted from this restriction.

  • All passengers arriving and departing from Bangladesh must present a COVID-19 negative test result based on the PCR method obtained from a government-authorized test facility. The test must be done either within 72 hours of departure time or within the time prescribed by the destination country.

  • With effect from 14 April 2021 until 20 April 2021, all international passenger flights to/from Bangladesh shall remain suspended. Medevac, humanitarian relief, cargo, technical landing, and flights cleared under special consideration shall remain out of the purview of this suspension.

Border restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Land borders at Akhaura, Banglabandha, Benapole, Bhomra, Burimari, Darshana, Hili, Nakugaon, Roumari, Sharla, and Tamabil are currently closed.

Curfew restrictions

  • Significant

  • A daily curfew is in effect from 18:00 to 06:00 (local time). Movement during curfew hours is only permitted for essential or urgent requirements.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Significant

  • Authorities have imposed restrictions on public activities and movement across the country.

  • No public gatherings of any kind are allowed.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Significant

  • All forms of public transport including road, rail, waterways and domestic air travel remain suspended.

  • There are restrictions on intercity or interstate travel

Accommodations open?

  • Yes

  • Some hotels and guesthouses are open.

Non-Essential Shops Open**

  • No

  • Non-essential shops, including shopping malls, remain closed.

Restaurants open?

  • No

  • All restaurants remain closed. Delivery food service options are available.

Beaches and tourism sites open?

  • No

  • All tourist locations are closed.

Places of worship open?

  • No with exceptions

  • Mosques and other places of worship are closed to citizens. Only official staff are permitted to enter.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes

  • Wearing a face mask is mandatory in public, including private workplaces.

Others

  • Bangladesh has extended the closure of schools and other educational institutions until 22 April.

  • Bangladesh government offices and private sector organizations will largely be closed until at least May 5.

  • Banking services remain limited. Banks will operate from 10:00 to 12:00.

Advice For Travellers

The COVID-19 epidemic is constantly changing worldwide. Travel and border restrictions may change with little or no notice. Airlines may have their own requirements for testing, masking, and distancing. It is recommended that travellers carry a supply of face masks since the requirement can vary by location.
