COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in American Samoa (12 March Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • No with exceptions

  • The government has suspended all border entry permits except for residents of American Samoa. Travellers must be cleared by the Samoan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • No with exceptions.

  • Medical screening will be done at the airport.

Is a test certificate allowed?

  • Yes

  • A certificate for a negative COVID-19 PCR test issued in other countries is accepted.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • Arrivals must have a negative COVID-19 test certificate issued within the last 72 hours before arrival.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • All arrivals will be required to quarantine for 15 days.

  • Based on the above restrictions, the traveller will be required to spend ‘15’ days in quarantine

Is a vaccination required?

  • No

  • A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required for entry into the country.

Insurance required?

  • No

  • Proof of insurance coverage for COVID-19 expenses is not required to enter the country.

Entry form required?

  • Travellers need to contact the Department of Health at least 10 days prior to travel and provide documents required by the Director of health.

Airline restrictions

  • Significant

  • All commercial flights are suspended until further notice except for cargo flights carrying essential goods.

  • The pilot and the crew must provide a negative certificate for a COVID-19 test done within the last 72 hours before arrival.

Border restrictions

  • Significant

  • International borders are closed under State of Emergency unless considered under special circumstances for repatriation. Citizens holding a non-US passport will be required to quarantine for 14 days in Hawaii, Tonga, or Samoa (Apia) before entering the territory.

Curfew restrictions

  • Minimal

  • There is a state of emergency in effect.

Social distancing restrictions

  • Moderate

  • All public gatherings are suspended until further notice. This includes, but is not limited to, bingo halls, rallies, political events, theatres, traditional gatherings, parks and recreation areas, flight night gatherings, and major sponsored events.

  • Only private family gatherings of no more than 10 people will be permitted.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Minimal

  • Masks are not required.

  • Public transportation is authorized to operate with limited capacity during the business hours of 05:00 to midnight.

Non-essential shops open?

  • Yes

  • Businesses are allowed to operate from 06:00 to 18:00 (local time) with limited numbers of customers.

Events allowed?

  • All kinds of events are prohibited until further notice.

Places of worship open?

  • Places of worship are allowed to open between 5:00 to 23:59.

Accommodations open?

  • Yes

Restaurants open?

  • Yes with exceptions.

  • Restaurants and fast-food businesses are limited to no more than 10 persons' occupancy.

Bars open?

  • Yes with exceptions.

  • Bars are limited to no more than 10 person occupancy

Others

  • All public and privates schools and daycares will be closed until further notice.
