COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Norfolk Island (01 July Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents can enter Norfolk Island.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • No with exceptions

  • Currently, Australian borders, including Norfolk Island, are closed to foreign nationals. Residents from Australia and New Zealand are permitted to enter Norfolk Island without quarantine, as long as they do not record travel history to any declared COVID-19 hotspots.   • Travellers from Greater Sydney and Wollongong, Blue Mountains and Central Coast regions of NSW are not allowed to enter Norfolk Island until July 9. However, returning residents who have been in these areas will be required to spend 14 days in self-isolation on the island after arrival. Returning residents and essential workers need to contact the Incident Controller prior to their arrival and arrange to have private transport at the airport that they can drive to their home or accommodation.

  • The Queensland Government has announced a three-day lockdown for the following Local Government Areas (LGA’s), Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Moreton Bay
    Brisbane, Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley, Somerset, Townsville City, Palm Island Aboriginal Shire. Anyone arriving on the island from the above LGAs must self-isolate at home or in their accommodations until 18:00 on Friday, July 2. EMT will examine the requirement and, if it is extended, will apply for it locally.

  • Anyone who is currently on Norfolk Island and has been in a New Zealand-listed location of interest must self-isolate and get tested by NIHRACS. The list of locations of interest is published by New Zealand Health at this link.

  • Travellers in transit or currently on the Island from Victoria or people who have been in Victoria in the last fourteen days will be required to contact NIHRACS and self-isolate if they have been in any of the listed COVID-19 hotspots. Returning residents who have been in the Greater Melbourne area in the last 14 days will be granted an Entry Pass but will be required to spend 14 days in self-isolation post-arrival on the island.   • Travellers arriving on the Island from Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Moreton Bay, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley, Somerset, Townsville City, Palm Island Aboriginal Shire will be required to contact NIHRACS and self-isolate until July 2, 18:00.
