COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Poland (23 July Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens are allowed to enter. Residents are allowed to enter if they have an official right of permanent or temporary residence in Poland.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • No with exceptions

  • Foreign nationals are not allowed to enter Poland, except for individuals in the categories below:

  • Foreigners who are spouses or children of citizens of Poland or children who are under the constant care of citizens of Poland;

  • Holders of a Karta Polaka (Pole's Card), heads of diplomatic missions and members of the mission's diplomatic and consular staff, i.e. persons having a diplomatic rank and members of their families;

  • If consent is given by the Commander-in-Chief of the Border Guard to those with particular justification for entering;

  • Foreigners, such as drivers, whose transit takes place as part of their professional work consisting of the transport of goods or persons;

  • Citizens and residents of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland (Rep.), Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland; and their spouses and children;

  • Citizens and residents of Georgia, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand, South Korea, Tunisia, Australia and USA;

  • Students studying in Poland.

  • Citizens of the United Kingdom and their spouses and children.

Is transit allowed?

  • Yes

  • Travellers are permitted to transit through Poland provided that they stay in the country for no longer than 24 hours and have a flight ticket confirming departure from Poland within 24 hours of arrival in the country.

Is a test on arrival required?

  • No with exceptions

  • Travellers from the EU Member States, Schengen Area, and Turkey who have been quarantined on arrival in Poland, may perform a test within 48 hours of crossing the border, with a negative test result allowing them to exit quarantine.

Test certificate required?

  • No, with exceptions

  • Arriving travellers are advised to present a negative COVID test result issued 48 hours prior to arrival into Poland unless exempted. Exemptions apply to fully vaccinated travellers and those who have recently recovered from COVID-19, provided that they present documentary proof.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • All arriving travellers, including those from the EU Member States, Schengen Area, and Turkey are subject to a 10-day quarantine upon entry, regardless of the means of transport used (collective, individual, or when crossing the border on foot).

  • Exemptions from quarantine apply to the following categories of travellers:

  • Fully vaccinated travellers with all vaccine doses required and 14 days have passed since their final dose was administered (counting from the day following the last vaccination date). The vaccination must be certified by the EU digital COVID certificate or another document, in Polish or English, confirming vaccination with a vaccine that has been authorized in the European Union,

  • Travellers who have been infected with the COVID-19, no later than 6 months before the day of crossing the Polish border. Travellers must present a document confirming that they had indeed been infected, issued in Polish or English; acceptable documents include the EU digital COVID certificate

  • Travellers arriving from the EU Member States, Schengen Area, and Turkey, and presenting a negative COVID-19 test result, confirmed with an EU COVID certificate or another document in Polish or English. Such a test must be performed no earlier than 48 hours before crossing the border.

  • Children under 12 years of age who are travelling under the supervision of adults vaccinated against COVID19

  • Travellers from the EU Member States, Schengen Area, and Turkey who have been quarantined on arrival in Poland, may perform a test within 48 hours of crossing the border, with a negative test result releasing them from quarantine.

  • Travellers from outside the European Union, Schengen Area, and Turkey who have been quarantined on arrival in Poland may perform a test on the 8th day at the earliest, counting from the day after crossing the border – with a negative result releasing them from quarantine.

Vaccination Required

  • No, with exceptions

  • A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required for entry into the country. However, fully vaccinated travellers will be exempted from quarantine on arrival.

  • Vaccinated travellers must present a certificate proving receipt of the complete dose of a vaccine authorized by the European Union at least 14 days before crossing the Polish border. The following EMA approved vaccines are accepted: Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson (Janssen)

  • Insurance for COVID 19 is not mandatory at this time.

Entry Form Required

  • Yes

  • All travellers crossing the state border of Poland by plane must fill out an electronic Passenger Locator Form via the ICT system before checking in, and if this is not possible, fill out a paper Passenger Locator Form provided by the cabin crew.

  • Indoor play centres, tanning salons, massage salons, and tattoo parlours remain open, with strict public health rules in place including limits on numbers of people.

  • Religious sites are open with limited capacity and social distancing measures.

Events allowed?

  • Gatherings are limited to 25 people.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes

  • Masks must be worn in all public indoor spaces and in public open spaces where social distancing of 1.5 meters is not possible.

Advice For Travellers

The COVID-19 epidemic is constantly changing worldwide. Travel and border restrictions may change with little or no notice. Airlines may have their own requirements for testing, masking, and distancing. It is recommended that travellers carry a supply of face masks since the requirement can vary by location. It is recommended that travellers practise social distancing, maintain a 6-foot distance from other individuals and avoid crowded areas. Check with your airline, booking agent, or country's embassy for information on your specific travel plans.
