COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Mauritius (20 July Update)

*Can a resident enter the country? *

  • Foreign travellers are allowed to travel to Mauritius subject to meeting strict entry requirements which vary depending on the vaccination status of the traveller.

Is transit allowed through the country?

  • Yes

  • Transit is allowed through the country.

*Is a test required on arrival? *

  • Yes

  • All arriving travellers will be tested for COVID-19 on the day of arrival in Mauritius and on days 7 and 14 of their stay. Those who test positive for COVID-19 on any of these tests will be transferred to a public medical institution for further treatment.

*Test certificate required? *

  • Yes

  • Passengers arriving in Mauritius must have a negative COVID-19 PCR report for a test performed between three and seven days prior to the departure.

  • Effective 1 October, all vaccinated travellers will be allowed to enter Mauritius without restrictions, subject to presenting a negative result on a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure.

*Is quarantine required on arrival? *

  • Yes

  • Currently, all arrivals are required to enter quarantine for at least 14 days on arrival in Mauritius.

  • All unvaccinated travellers entering Mauritius will be required to enter quarantine for 14 days and will be tested for COVID-19 on the day of arrival, on days 7 and 14 of their stay. Travellers can leave their hotel room before the completion of 14 days to transfer back to the airport for departure.

  • Unvaccinated travellers must book a 14-day quarantine package at an officially designated quarantine hotel, which includes meals and transfers. Travellers must remain in their rooms for the full 14 days and are not allowed to move freely on hotel grounds.

  • Fully vaccinated travellers can book certified “COVID-19 safe resorts” and move freely on hotel grounds during their quarantine period. However, if they choose any other quarantine hotel, they must remain confined in their room. Vaccinated travellers completing the 14-day quarantine and receiving negative results on COVID-19 tests performed on days 7 and 14 will be permitted to exit quarantine and explore the island.

  • Based on the above restrictions, all incoming travellers will be required to spend at least 14 days in quarantine.

Is vaccination required?

  • No

  • A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required for entry into the country.

  • Fully vaccinated travellers must present a valid vaccination certificate. The vaccine received must be recognized by Mauritian authorities. The list of approved vaccines are Astrazeneca (Covishield), AstraZeneca Vaxzevria, Covaxin, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Pfizer, Sinopharm, Sputnik and Sinovac-CoronaVac. Mixed vaccination is approved upon proof of vaccination of both doses.

  • To be categorized as “fully vaccinated” the traveller must receive the second dose of the vaccine at least 14 days before arrival. In the case of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, at least 28 days should have passed since having received the vaccine before undertaking travel to Mauritius. For persons who have recovered from COVID-19, only one vaccine shot is required at least 14 days before arrival.

  • Flight services have partially resumed. However, incoming travellers will have to provide a valid air ticket to Mauritius and proof of purchase of a stay package in one of the government-approved COVID-19 safe resorts.

Advice For Travellers

The COVID-19 epidemic is constantly changing worldwide. Travel and border restrictions may change with little or no notice. Airlines may have their own requirements for testing, masking, and distancing. It is recommended that travellers carry a supply of face masks since the requirement can vary by location. It is recommended that travellers practise social distancing, maintain a 6-foot distance from other individuals and avoid crowded areas.
