COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Equatorial Guinea (13 July Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents are allowed entry.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • No with exceptions

  • Only diplomats and professionals or business travellers are allowed entry.

  • Diplomatic missions and international organizations are required to submit the list and other details of their personnel or/and family members to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation prior to arrival.

  • Permitted foreign nationals must obtain a visa to enter Equatorial Guinea.

  • Travellers from the United Kingdom and India are prohibited from entering the country. There may be some exceptions for business travellers.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • All arrivals will have their temperature checked and will be subject to a COVID-19 IgM rapid test upon arrival.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • All passengers and airline crew must provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate not older than 48 hours prior to their departure for Equatorial Guinea  as well as proof of residency, employment, or business purpose of the visit. If a passenger presents an invalid PCR test certificate, authorities may withdraw that traveller's passport until the end of their quarantine.

  • Departing travellers are also required to have a negative test certificate issued within the last 48 hours prior to departure.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • All arrivals are required to be quarantined for 5 days. Travellers are required to have another COVID-19 test after 5 days and may leave the quarantine facility if they have a negative result. Travellers testing positive will be transferred to a government-designated health centre and will be required to quarantine for a further 14 days.

  • Anyone arriving without the negative COVID-19 test certificate may be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine upon arrival.

  • Based on the above restrictions, the traveller can expect to spend between 5 and 14 days in quarantine.

Is vaccination required?

  • No

  • A vaccination for COVID-19 is not required for entry into the country.

Insurance required?

  • No

  • Proof of insurance coverage for COVID-19 expenses is not required to enter the country.

Airline restrictions

  • Moderate

  • International and domestic flights are operating on a limited basis.

  • Passengers travelling to and from Bata Airport will need authorization from local authorities to travel between the regions. All travellers must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate issued within the last 48 hours prior to travel.

  • Flights from the UK, including stopover flights, remain suspended.

Border restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Travellers from the nations that restrict the entry of the citizens of Equatorial Guinea will not be allowed to enter Equatorial Guinea under terms of reciprocity.

  • Land borders are open.

  • Maritime borders are open.

  • Trade is allowed between the mainland and the island.

Curfew restrictions

  • Yes with exceptions

  • A curfew is in place every day from 23:00 to 05:00 (local time). In the city of Bata, curfew will be from 19:00 to 6:00 (local time).

Social restrictions

  • Gatherings are limited to a maximum of 50 people.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Inter-district travel is restricted, and a PCR test is required for transit districts.

  • Public transportation is operating. Taxi services are limited to two passengers per trip.

Advice For Travellers

The COVID-19 epidemic is constantly changing worldwide. Travel and border restrictions may change with little or no notice. Airlines may have their own requirements for testing, masking, and distancing. It is recommended that travellers carry a supply of face masks since the requirement can vary by location. It is recommended that travellers practice social distancing and maintain a 6-foot distance from other individuals and avoid crowded areas.
