COVID-19 Precautionary Measures in Zimbabwe (09 July Update)

Can a resident enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Citizens and residents are allowed to enter.

Can a foreigner enter the country?

  • Yes

  • Foreigners are allowed to enter the country.

Is transit allowed through the country?

  • Yes with exceptions

  • Transit is currently only possible via the two international airports.

Is a test required on arrival?

  • No with exceptions

  • Travellers arriving from or who have transited the countries where the Alpha (previously known as the UK variant) and Delta (previously known as the India variant) are present, will be tested for COVID-19 on the first, third, fifth, and tenth days at the traveller’s expense during their quarantine period.

  • Travellers with symptoms of COVID-19 may be required to have a COVID-19 test at their own expense.

  • Arriving travellers may undergo temperature screening. Anyone recording a temperature equal to or higher than 38°C will be tested for COVID-19.

  • Returning residents of Zimbabwe, will either need to have to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within the previous 48 hours or get tested upon arrival and remain in a government-designated facility while awaiting the results.

Test certificate required?

  • Yes

  • All arriving travellers must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate from an approved facility issued within 48 hours prior to boarding. Travellers failing to provide a negative test certificate may be denied entry.

  • Returning residents of Zimbabwe, will either have to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within the previous 48 hours or get tested upon arrival and remain in a government-designated facility while awaiting the results.

Is quarantine required on arrival?

  • Yes

  • All incoming travellers will be subjected to quarantine at home or in a hotel for 10 days. Travellers without a PCR test certificate or who have symptoms of COVID-19 must be quarantined at an approved government facility for 10 days upon arrival at their own expense.

  • Travellers arriving from or who have transited the countries where the Alpha (previously known as the UK variant) and Delta (previously known as the Indian variant) variants are present will be placed in a government-designated quarantine centre. These travellers will be tested for COVID-19 on the first, third, fifth, and tenth days of the quarantine at the traveller’s expense. The duration of this quarantine is unspecified.

  • Passengers who test positive for COVID-19 upon arrival must enter quarantine at a government-appointed facility for 10 days.

  • Based on the above restrictions, all arriving travellers will have to enter quarantine for a minimum of 10 days.

Is a vaccination required?

  • No

  • A COVID-19 vaccination is not required to enter Zimbabwe.

Insurance required?

  • No

  • Proof of insurance coverage for COVID-19 expenses is not required to enter the country.

Entry form required?

  • Yes

  • Travellers must complete the “track and trace form” on arrival.

Airline restrictions

  • Minimal

  • International commercial flights are operating.

  • Zimbabwe's international airports are open to international travellers.

  • Domestic flights are operating.

  • Entry visas may be obtained on arrival.

Border restrictions

  • Moderate

  • Land borders are closed, except for transportation of goods and returning nationals and residents.

Curfew restrictions

  • Moderate

  • A nationwide curfew is in place from 18:30 to 06:00 (local time)

Social distancing restrictions

  • Significant

  • Gatherings at weddings, churches, bars, off-licenses gyms, and restaurants remain banned.

  • Gatherings at funerals are limited to 30 people.

Internal travel restrictions

  • Significant

  • Travel between cities has been suspended. Only travel that supports food and medicine production is allowed.

Non-essential shops open?

  • Yes

  • All businesses are allowed to open from 08:00 to 15:30 (local time) at a reduced capacity of staff on site.

Accommodations open?

  • Yes

  • Access to facilities and services at hotels and lodges are restricted.

Restaurants open?

  • No with exceptions

  • Restaurants are closed for dine-in services. However, take-away services can be provided until 15:30 (local time).

Bars and cafes open?

  • No

  • Bars and nightclubs remain closed.

Beaches and tourism sites open?

  • No

  • Most tourist sites remain closed.

Places of worship open?

  • Yes

  • Churches are open.

Masks required in public?

  • Yes

  • Face masks are mandatory for all people while in public places.

Other

  • Schools are open.

  • Gyms and clubs are closed.

Advice For Travellers

The COVID-19 epidemic is constantly changing worldwide. Travel and border restrictions may change with little or no notice. Airlines may have their own requirements for testing, masking, and distancing. It is recommended that travellers carry a supply of face masks since the requirement can vary by location. It is recommended that travellers practise social distancing, maintain a 6-foot distance from other individuals and avoid crowded areas.
